Bengaluru, 10 July 2025: In a series of events, shows and talks being organised in honour and celebration of His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai Lama’s 90th Birthday – from Ghoton Celebration Committee, Bengaluru, the first part of the planned program ended with an exemplary warmth of hospitality and cooperation from the administration of then Kristu Jayanti College, Autonomous.
What could have been more delightful and graceful than on a day, i.e., 9 July 2025, Wednesda,y while an event of Celebration of His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai Lama was taking place in one of the educational campuses in Bengaluru – then Kristu Jayanti College, Autonomous now being awarded as Kristu Jayanti – Deemed to be University. Dr.C.Jude, Dean of Sciences, shared this information with the Chief Representative, South Zone, which added more flavour and colour to this celebration.
Rev.Fr.Dr.Augustine George, Principal of Kristu Jayanti Deemed to be University, extended his warm welcome to guests, faculty members, participants and students. In his address, he threw light upon his relationship and understanding of the Tibetan People’s plight of how and what they were then and are now. It is the light of education and knowledge that spells the misery of darkness and connects oneself to others in the good spirit of humanity, service and compassion – Rev.Fr.Dr.Augustine reaffirms. He also extended the compliments to his colleagues, faculty and other stakeholders upon the achievement of another milestone from KJC to KJ Deemed to be University.
In addition to this, Rev. Fr. shared about his personal experience of spending days at Mundgod. It is from the same place that the Buddhist Monks led by former Chant Master Ven. Geshe Tashi, along with two monks from Drepung Gomang Monastic University, Mundgod, filled the auditorium with the fragrance of spirituality and purity with their distinct Buddhist prayers and their versatility.
Dr.Dorjee Rabten, Principal, Tibetan Medical Sowarigpa College, Bidadi, Ramnagar, spoke about the Science of Healing that has its roots in Tibet but has also been reestablished now in exile. He touched upon the surface of this practice, how it is learnt, tested, approved and allowed to serve. Presently, Sowarigpa – the Institution under the recognition of AYUSH Ministry, Government of India, has elevated in terms of its curriculum and outreach, stated by Dr.Rabten. He wholeheartedly extended the invitation to all the participants to visit and explore the Sowarigpa way of medical science.
Dr.Tenzin Pasang, Principal, Dalai Lama Institute of Higher Education, now recognised under the Bengaluru University, emphasised the importance of learning, particularly His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s vision of SEE Learning. Being a vibrant and youthful educationist, administrator and formerly the Director, Science and Meditation Centre, Drepung Loseling, Mundgod, shared the memoirs of three people – firstly, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, second, his friend and thirdly of his father and himself. Dr.Pasang stressed upon what Tibet has received from India that was preserved, learnt, practised and now rejuvenated back in India. He underlined the four major commitments of His Holiness the Dalai Lama: promotion of human values, religious harmony amongst different faiths, preservation of Tibetan identity and promotion of India’s wisdom of Nalanda’s tradition of learning and education.
Rev.Fr.Dr.Augustine George, Principal; Dr.C.Jude, Dean of Sciences; Dr.Nirmala, Department of Economics; Shilpa Rao, Sreedevi (Media & Mass Communication), and Don were specially felicitated from the Ghoton Celebration Committee for their support and management.
The magnanimity of the event was even more enthralled by beautiful performances from the Tibetan Cultural Troupe nestled in Kalimpong – popularly known as Gangjong Doeghar. Snow Lion Dance and Nangma Toeshey – amongst the other features of Cultural presentation, rekindled the hope of Tibet’s rich cultural and traditional folk arts survival that deviates from the interpretation of the Chinese version of Tibet’s – being part of the People’s Republic of China.
More than 990 students jammed-packed the auditorium, raised questions about the anxieties of knowing more about Tibet and selfied along with performers, leaving a footprint of memories of this event in the august campus of Kristu Jayanti Deemed to be University, Bengaluru. The event started at 02:30 pm and ended at 04:30 pm.
As expected, with much satisfaction and outreach amongst the institution, participation and impact, Ganjong Deogar Cultural Troupe, after having landed in Bengaluru on 4 July 2025, performed at four venues and left Bengaluru on 10 July for Bagdogra en route to Kalimpong.
