Bir Boetsog Tibetan Settlement Marks the 90th Birthday of His Holiness with Spiritual Leaders of Various Faiths
Bir: The Local Ghoton Committee of Bir Boetsog Tibetan Settlement, in collaboration with the Bir Tibetan Society (BTS), commemorated the 90th birthday of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama with a three-day celebration.
On 6 July 2025, BTS hosted distinguished spiritual leaders from various faiths as special guests, in line with His Holiness’s commitment to promoting inter-religious harmony. The guests included Hindu spiritual leader Sri Sri 1008th Mahamandleshwar Sri Ram Mohandas from Ramayani, Ladruhi Mandir, Joginder Nagar; Associate Priest Rev. Virender Pal Singh from St. John Church in the Wilderness, Palampur; Shri Gopal Singh, Granthi from Gurudwara Dera Santa Da, Baijnath; Maulana Mohammad Ali Hassan from Masjid Palampur; and Dorjee Lopon Rev. Nyima Namgyal from Dirru Sakya Monastery, Bir. Each guest was presented with a copy of the Voice for the Voiceless book and commemorative mementos.
The function began with morning incense burning and prayer flag hoisting, followed by the reading of statements from Kashag and the Tibetan Parliament in Exile in both English and Tibetan. The distinguished spiritual leaders addressed the gathering, emphasising the importance of unity among different religious traditions and promoting the message of being a good human being who does not harm others.
The Boetsog Cultural Group and Regional Women’s Association performed a variety of traditional Tibetan songs and dances, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Bir community.
On 7 July 2025, local dignitaries including Smt. Nagesh Thakur Pradhan of Chowgan Panchayat, Shri Hari Singh, SHO of Bir Thana, and Shri Dilip Singh, a representative from the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited, joined as special guests. The day also honored settlement elders aged 90 and above, recognising their unwavering dedication to the community over the years.
On 8 July, the settlement people gathered for morning games, followed by the Goton 4th Inter-Chushok basketball final match and Gorshey.
