Tibetans in Kullu Celebrate His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 90th Birthday with Initiatives Promoting His Four Principal Commitments
Kullu: The local Ghoton Organising Committee in Kullu hosted a three-day celebration to mark the 90th birthday of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. The event saw enthusiastic participation from local Indian officials, residents, and members of the Tibetan community.
Leading up to His Holiness’ birthday, the organisers displayed His Holiness’ four principal commitments and teachings at prominent locations along the route from Manali to Kullu town centre, creating awareness and reverence for His Holiness life’s work.
The celebration began with a spiritual offering on the first day. In the morning, monks and laypeople gathered in the courtyard of Dhobi Palrabling Monastery, where local monasteries presided over a traditional juniper smoke offering (Sangsol) and long-life prayers for His Holiness.
The event was honoured by the presence of Shri Bhuvneshvar Gaur, MLA Manali, and Shri Ashwini Kumar (HAS), Additional District Magistrate, as chief guests, along with special guest Shri Ravi Thakur, Former MLA. Other distinguished attendees included local officials, community leaders, and representatives from 16 different Buddhist associations based in Kullu.
As a token of appreciation, the organising committee presented souvenirs to around 60 guests in recognition of their consistent support for the Tibetan residents and their contributions to the broader Tibetan cause. Additionally, the chief guests conferred presents to several members of the Tibetan community during the event. The day concluded with colourful cultural performances.
On the second day, a special screening of His Holiness’ four commitments was held to further promote these core principles. This initiative was led by the Tibetan Settlement Officer. The day’s program was graced by Shri Govind Thakur, former MLA Manali, as the chief guest.
The celebration concluded on the third day with continued cultural performances and recreational activities, including games and sports contests, bringing the community together in a joyful and spirited finale.
