For one night, the Waterfowl Building in Easton was transformed.
What is typically a large, open event hall became a vibrant, temporary gallery—walls filled with student artwork, light pouring in through tall windows, and the scent of fresh popcorn drifting through the air. More than 1,000 people attended the opening of this year’s annual Mid-Shore Student Art Exhibition, a pop-up experience organized across four counties by the Academy Art Museum and generously supported by the Waterfowl Festival Foundation.
The energy was electric. Visitors flowed through the galleries and out onto the street, dressed for the occasion, greeting neighbors, and pausing in front of works that ranged from early elementary explorations to striking middle and high school achievements.
But beyond the scale, it was the moments of recognition that defined the evening.
For many students, it was the first time seeing their work presented in a true gallery setting—framed, lit, and taken seriously. For some families, it was a moment of surprise and pride, realizing a level of talent they hadn’t fully seen before. Awards were given, but the deeper impact was confidence, validation, and a sense of belonging.
The exhibition itself feels notably elevated this year, reflecting the thoughtful effort of the Academy Art Museum team to transform the Waterfowl Building into a welcoming, dynamic exhibition space. Every detail—from layout to atmosphere—contributes to an experience that feels both professional and deeply rooted in community.
And that community is still showing up.
Now, in its final days, the exhibition remains open to the public with limited viewing hours. Visitors can experience the show:

Thursday, March 26 | 3:00–7:00 p.m.
Saturday, March 28 | 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
Sunday, March 29 | 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

After Sunday, the exhibition closes.
For those who missed opening night—or for anyone who wants to experience the energy again—this is a rare chance to see the Waterfowl Building transformed and to witness the creativity and promise of the region’s young artists.
It is, quite simply, worth showing up for.
