Allegra! Women’s Chorus is delighted to share a thrilling and thoughtful program of music on April 18 on Easton and April 19 in Oxford.
Music of Living, program title and featured piece by Dan Forrest, encapsulates the themes of nature, wonder, and creativity woven throughout the concert’s selections. At the heart of the program will be a choral suite of Mary Oliver poems –  It is Happiness – set by Joan Szymko. The work includes poems “The Summer Day,” “Sunrise,” and “Wild Geese” in which the opening movement asks “What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” Joan Szymko is one of just a handful of composers ever granted permission to set Oliver’s poetry to music. Szymko is a master at illuminating texts, and here she is at her very best. Music of Living will also include music and poetry from Henry Purcell, Edvard Grieg, Shawn Kirchner with William Butler Yeats and Euan Tait.
The women’s chorus is conducted by Amy Morgan, an accomplished musician whose education includes a Bachelors degree in Piano Performance from Salisbury University and Masters Degree in Choral Conducting from Messiah University.  Morgan has extensive experience as a choral, operetta, and musical theatre director, is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, and is an active musician the Easton community.  The program will be accompanied by Ellen Grunden, Lyn Banghart, Sachi Murasugi, and Denise Nathanson on piano, flute, violin, and cello.
The April 18 performance will take place at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 315 Goldsborough Street, Easton at 7pm. The April 19 performances will be at St. Paul’s Church, Oxford at 3pm. Tickets and more information can be found at www.allegroacademyeaston.com.
